Marmara Group Foundation has participated Commemoration

Marmara Group Foundations Delegation Dr. Akkan Suver, Mr. Şamil Ayrım, Mr. Ercüment Güvercin and Kenan Acıkök home participated the 2016 Peace Conference in Yinchuar China.

Dr. Suver has moderated the forum “Building up the Base for Peace” in the opening session.

Dr. Suver also made a speech on the 2nd day of the Conference. The text of his speech is below;

First and foremost, I, together with my colleagues representing the Marmara Group Foundation, would like to extend warmest regards and greetings to Your High Delegation.

Thanks to the organisation of this magnificent event taking place under the topic of ‘Peace’, which I consider the world is in dire need of, I would also like to express my gratitude to the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) for being part of it.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Prior to the delivery of the main frame of my speech, please allow me state the following ones;

On July 15, 2016, an attempted terrorist coup (d'état) was put on the stage in my country targeting the whole democratic system and the democratically-elected government; this terroristic coup attempt mischievously spearheaded by a fraudulent-cleric was jointly repulsed by our nation, our military and our police.

Today, my country maintains its existence in good standing within the framework of the democratic norms.

Dear Mr. President, Ladies, Gentlemen,

The most crucial element threatening the world peace today is terrorism rather than the international and/or intercontinental warfare.

In today’s World that becomes smaller at a dizzying pace through the revolutionary advancements in the fields of transportation and communication, we have come to realise that people have no other option rather than getting perpetually closer one another.

Terror – as the real catastrophe facing humanity – is the most hazardous factor for the sustainable peace of the World.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As well-known to all of us, countries are used to condemn the terrorism – notwithstanding the many considerations; some that harbour evil intentions support terrorism underhandedly as they wave aside all the binding documents they did undersign.

So, unfortunately, we observe the fact that words are not followed by deeds in this context.

As stated in the Millennium Declaration of the United Nations some 15 years ago:

"We should establish a platform for joint struggle against terrorism, act together and form a joint front for the struggle against terror and adhere to all related international agreements in the shortest possible time."

In accordance with it and on the occasion of this great meeting, I would like to voice, once again, the following general sentiment;

Let’s then conform to the conclusion of the Millennium Declaration having been embraced by the whole world nearly 15 years ago.

In this regard, let’s make the planet a better place where the terms ‘peace and serenity’ become – ipso facto – sustainable.

By the way, three years ago, some other utterances were correlatively added up to those ones having been voiced 15 years ago.

The Project of Maritime and Land Silk Road Economic Belt!

Marmara Foundation attach great importance to Silk Road Project introduced by China. The axis of it, in my opinion, will help create a new field of stability and shift the heart of the Global Economy into Asia, Europe and Africa.

"Silk Road, One Belt, One Road" can help guide the way. This philosophy, first announced in 2013 by President H.E. Xi Jinping, seeks to further integrate Asia, Europe and Africa through the development of land and maritime in infrastructure, components known as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the twenty-first-century Maritime Silk Road.

This massive push for development includes roads, rails, airports, seaports, energy pipelines and other core projects for economic development in the region. Under the leadership of China, Silk Road Economic Belt will also further the political, social and cultural linkages between over 60 countries that will be part of this initiative.

In brief, as the Marmara Group Foundation, we call this project peace and prosperity project of the era.

By means of this strategic project, a new peaceful phase will be introduced in this geography.

The step designated to create a platform of peace, stability and prosperity is meant not for a brand-new conflict or an influence sphere, but for an international cooperation, a co-existence and a collaboration spirit.

From that time up to now, we have been striving to emphasize the importance of this approach for our region and to direct all attention to it accordingly.

The stance that all region countries take on this project has been remarkable.

The approach that Marmara Group Foundation manifesting from the beginning towards the project of the Maritime and Land Silk Road Economic Belt has been focused on the purpose of preserving the geopolitical pluralism in this region from time immemorial.

This will become the beginning of a great transformation.

This, again, will play a determining role in the 21st century in terms of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

As is known to everyone, this geography enjoys the most cardinal natural resources of the world.

These god-given resources, as catalyst, will enable more secure and independent energy supplies for the developed and rising markets in the long run as well.

Europe, with this project, will have a chance to embrace Asia via these new transport and communication corridors.

This development will provide with an opening of a new trade network in the world as well. That is; the Silk Road is going to be put on to stage of the history of future. Thus, this region and Europe will remain interconnected more efficiently. It is crucial for peace in general.

Turkey, my country, has been an important actor on the progress of this project.

Turkey has, to a great extent, supported this project in the fields of logistics and transportation. For example, the two bridges already built in Turkey have been backed up with the third one lately, which is to be integrated through highways and railways both under and over the sea connections.

By means of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railways Project, the so-called Silk Road out of railways will be emerged ensuring us a direct linkage from Peking to London.

Since Turkey regards the Maritime and Land Silk Road Economic Belt Project as a project of sustainable peace, she has become a stakeholder of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) that was based upon the same principle.

Perhaps, you were wondering the reason why I have made mention of all these points...

The project of the Maritime and Land Silk Road Economic Belt initiated by the President of the People’s Republic of China with the purpose of creating a platform of an undivided stabile and prospered geography has been highly appreciated by the whole countries of the region.

Through this project, efforts to boost regional cooperation have skyrocketed.

This is a strategic step for the future of the peace.

This is an approach that can halt and terminate the trouble of terrorism.

For the sustainability of the peace, please allow me to summarise and finish my address with the quote of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk – the founder of modern Turkey, who emphasized the importance of peace nearly 90 years ago as such;

‘Peace at Home, Peace in the World’.

During his speech at the closing of the Peace Meeting, Dr. Akkan Suver gave detailed information to the participants coming from various countries about the coup attempt which took place in Turkey on July 15th. Dr. Suver explained the participants the coup attempt which was carried out against democracy, the elected President and the will of the nation. He also informed about the fight against terrorism. He has concluded his speech with the words of the Great Leader Atatürk “Peace at home, peace in the world"
