BIOGRAPHY-Dr. Akkan Suver

Dr. Akkan Suver, who has been the President of the Marmara Group Foundation, which has been operating internationally since 1998, represented the Montenegrin State as Honorary Consul General in Istanbul for twelve years between May 2008 and December 2019. In January 2020, Dr. Akkan Suver resigned after the Montenegrin State opened an official consulate in Istanbul. During his time as the Honorary Consul General Dr. Akkan Suver, was the first and only journalist diplomat of Turkey with Press Card.

Dr. Akkan Suver, the founder of the Eurasian Economic Summits, which has been taking place continuously since 1998 and adopted as an international prestige association, is a civil society leader who is accepted in the world for his work on peace and intercultural dialogue. Dr. Akkan Suver was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Azerbaijan Tefekkur University in 2001, Honorary Professor from Kyrgyzstan Bishkek University in 2010, and Honorary Doctorate from Romania Constanta State Maritime University in 2013.

Dr. Suver; who received Pontificate Medal from Pope Benedict XVI due to his works on intercultural dialogue first in Turkey and then in international area, also Dostlug Orden and Terraki Medal from Azerbaijan, Genghis Khan Medal, Silver Star Medal and Polar Star Medal from Mongolia and 15th Year Medal, 20th Year Medal and Independence Medal from Moldova - Gagauzia.

Dr. Akkan Suver, recognized by his endeavours in the area of Intercultural Dialogue, received Balkan Charter of Peace from Balkan Club of Peace on February 14, 2013.

Dr. Akkan Suver was awarded with Jubile Medal by the organization of BSCSIF on 9th March 2014 in Bucharest.

The most prestigious award “The Certificate for Decoration of Land of Gagauzia” presented to Dr. Akkan Suver in Moldova Gagauzia on 14th of October, 2014.

Dr. Akkan Suver was given Romanian State Special Medal regarding the 25th Anniversary of fall of Communism, in Bucharest by the Prime Minister H.E. Victor Ponta on November 20, 2014.

Dr. Akkan Suver was rewarded by former Chancellor H.E. Dr. Erhard Busek “Strategic Partner Award” at Vienna Economic Forum on November 23, 2014.

Dr. Akkan Suver was presented the ‘Turkish – Romanian Relations Award’ by the Romanian Ambassador to Ankara H.E. Radu Onofrei, on December 17, 2014.

By the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dr. Suver hold in high honor with the "Honorary Worker of Energy" Decoration. Also, Dr. Suver was granted a Diploma of "Ambassador of Knowledge" by a Ljubljana based organization, the Life Learning Academy in 2016.

In the year 2017, he has been received to the Academic Committee of Istinye University in Istanbul.

On June 9, 2017, the State of Albania awarded Dr. Akkan Suver with the "Medal for Special Civil Merit" through President Bujar Nishani.

In November 2017, Dr. Suver was presented with the "Strategic Partner of the Year 2017" award by Vienna Economic Forum in Austria for his great contribution to the regional common understanding, his works in the intercultural dialogue area and cooperation through long years.

He was awarded the rank of the Officer of the Order of the Crown of Romania, by Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, in March 2018.

On 11-12 April 2018, Dr. Suver organized and lead the 21st Eurasian Economic Summit.

On November 12, 2018, he was honoured by President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen with the "Decoration of Honour in Gold".

He launched the Vienna Economic Forum 15th Jubilee as the Guest of Honour on November 18, 2018.

He left his post of Honorary Consul of Montenegro to Istanbul, which he had been serving for 12 years, on January 1, 2020, with the official opening of the Montenegro Consulate in Istanbul.

The 23rd Eurasian Economic Summit was held on October 6-7, 2020, with the participation of 47 countries (Under the Guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative), despite the coronavirus epidemic.

He was appointed to the Honorary Consulate of Balıkesir by the Montenegrin state on December 16, 2020.

He was honored with a letter of appreciation by the Azerbaijani Diospora Ministry on December 24, 2020 for the solidarity that he displayed during the Karabakh operation of Azerbaijan.

On March 5, 2021, President of Montenegro Milo Dukonovic made Dr. Akkan Suver a Citizen of Montenegro with a ceremony held in Podgorica. At the same ceremony, President Milo Dukonovic presented to Dr. Akkan Suver the Montenegro Medal of Merit and his Passport.

Dr. Akkan Suver, deemed worthy for the titles like journalist of the year, civil society leader of the years from many national and international institutions.

The 24th Eurasian Economic Summit was held on July 7-9 2021 in Istanbul with the participation of 42 countries in a hybrid environment. The 24th Eurasian Economic Summit, with the motto of "Humanity deserves better", started with the messages of President of the Turkish Republic Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev. Dr. Akkan Suver was awarded in the Summit with the "Veteran Journalist Gold Medal" by the Azerbaijan Journalist Union.

On 13th of August, 2021, People's Republic of China presented a Golden Pen award to Dr. Suver for his services in the field of civil society on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Turkey-China relations.

25th Eurasian Economic Summit which held on 7, 8 and 9 June 2022 with the participation of 43 countries. At the same Summit, he was awarded the "Peace Medal" by the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL) in the United States. At the same Summit, Dr. Akkan Suver was awarded an Honorary Doctorate and Vector Order by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

His book "After 80 Years" was published in August 2022.

13,14,15 March in Istanbul, with the participation of 44 countries, the 26th Eurasian Economic Summit is organized.

Dr. Akkan Suver has been awarded titles such as the journalist of the year and the leader of the non-governmental organization of the year by various national and international organizations over the past years.

At the various platforms taking place in the same year, Dr. Suver conveyed the views of the Turkish Civil Society during his participation at the various international meetings in Azerbaijan, the Peoples Republic of China, Romania, Austria, Montenegro, Italy, France, Belgium, Greece, Turkmenistan, Serbia, Georgia, Moldova, Gagauzia, Uzbekistan, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and the UN.

Dr. Akkan Suver, for the sake of Civil Society, again took part in the Elections happened in Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakstan, Ukraine and Georgia, as an Observer.

Dr. Akkan Suver is a well-known journalist and writer in Turkey whose books have been published in Turkish as well as in English, Montenegrin and Azerbaijani. He is currently writing for the Gözlem Newspaper in Izmir.
