Dr. Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group, addressed Azerbaijan via Skype under the moderation of Elnar Mehmetali in the "Commemoration Day" programme of the founding president of modern Azerbaijan, the late national leader Haydar Aliyev, organised by the Azerbaijan State Television.

Dr. Akkan Suver's speech can be summarized as follows:

Haydar Aliyev had three significant qualities.

Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, he established the modern Azerbaijani Army, which would later write the epic of Karabakh.
His second great quality is the adoption of the Latin alphabet, a move that made his country more understandable to the West and the Turkic world.

His third greatest attribute is the energy diplomacy he pursued. The starting point for Azerbaijan's rapid growth, development, and enrichment today is the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli Agreement made in 1995. The second major achievement that followed this agreement is the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline project. With the oil and natural gas obtained from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields and later the Shah Deniz project, a significant example of Haydar Aliyev's foresight is the creation of an alternative route for Russian gas and oil for Türkiye and Europe today.

When Haydar Aliyev took office, there was no electricity or roads in the country. Poverty was around 45%.
He chose the path of turning black gold into human wealth. Outlining the roadmap for the country's reconstruction with oil revenues, he embarked on significant societal changes for Azerbaijan to reach Western standards. Those who succeeded him continued their work in his footsteps. And they reached the Azerbaijan of today.
Ilham Aliyev, who inherited the legacy from him, has implemented all the duties to turn Azerbaijan into a great state over the past years. These are signs of the positive trajectory inherited from Haydar Aliyev.
It is the continuation of this positive trend that Ilham Aliyev has reclaimed the occupied Karabakh territories, ensuring that Haydar Aliyev rests in peace at his memorial grave. Therefore, the great march initiated by Haydar Aliyev on the path of civilization, peace, and humanity is now being continued by Ilham Aliyev.
