Oğuzhan Ceylan Attended the “Sovereign AI Power Index” Meeting Held at the House of Lords

Representing the Marmara Group Foundation, Executive Council Member Oğuzhan Ceylan and Foundation Member Ayhan Arslan attended the meeting entitled “Sovereign AI Power Index Country Rankings”, held on 2 July 2026 at the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, in London.

Hosted by Baroness Manzila Uddin and organised by Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh OBE, the meeting took place in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords.

The meeting addressed countries’ sovereign capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, with discussions focusing on computing power, capital formation, regulatory readiness, data sovereignty, and the practical implementation of artificial intelligence applications.

During the panel, it was emphasised that artificial intelligence technologies are no longer merely a field of technical development, but have also become a critical issue in terms of national security, public trust, data privacy, economic competitiveness, and the strategic independence of states.

Speakers underlined that possessing artificial intelligence infrastructure alone is not sufficient; the ability of countries to manage and deploy these technologies effectively, securely, and in a manner that produces measurable outcomes is equally decisive.

As part of the programme, a gift on behalf of the Marmara Group Foundation was presented to Baroness Manzila Uddin. The delegation also met with H.E. Osman Koray Ertaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to London.

Oğuzhan Ceylan and Ayhan Arslan expressed their gratitude to Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh OBE for the invitation to the meeting.

The meeting provided a valuable and informative platform for discussing the future of national strategies in artificial intelligence, countries’ approaches to digital sovereignty, and Türkiye’s potential in this field.

Following the programme, the delegation toured the House of Lords at the courtesy of Canberk Sirmen, Adviser to Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne. During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the traditions of the British Parliament and the historical significance of the House of Lords and its historic premises.
