The Marmara Group Foundation mourns former Romanian President Ion Iliescu, a great friend, recipient of the Foundation's Medal of Honour and founding participant in the Eurasian Economic Summits.

Romania's first democratically elected president after communism valued the Foundation's work and joined Dr. Akkan Suver in many activities over the years.

Dr. Suver remembered their decades of friendship and cooperation for Balkan peace, European integration and Turkiye-Romania relations, describing Iliescu as an exceptional leader respected throughout the Balkans.

The Foundation shares the grief of the Romanian people and will preserve his memory with gratitude.
