Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, one of Türkiye's leading historians, academics and authors, has passed away. Through decades of scholarship, publications and lectures, he made an exceptional contribution to bringing history to a broad public.

Marmara Group Foundation President Dr. Akkan Suver described Ortaylı as not only an eminent historian but also a scholar who shaped Türkiye's cultural life and a close friend of the Foundation. Ortaylı participated in many Foundation events in Istanbul, Brussels, Paris and Ankara and regularly contributed to the Eurasian Economic Summits.

In recognition of his contribution, he received the Bernard Lewis History Award during the Foundation's 40th anniversary programme. The Marmara Group Foundation remembers Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı with respect and extends its condolences to his family, students and the Turkish nation.
