The latest meeting in Turkey's path towards EU membership, having been a candidate since 1999 and conducting accession negotiations since 2005, took place on 29 November 2015 in Brussels.

Turkey was represented by Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Ambassador Volkan Bozkır, and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

At the summit, the Turkish delegation held talks with representatives of EU member states, as well as the Presidents of the European Council, European Parliament, and European Commission.

Issues such as irregular migration, cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and EU financial support for Syrian refugees were brought to the agenda during these discussions.

Based on the joint statement agreed upon by the parties at the conclusion of this summit held in Brussels, we can summarize the key points as follows.

- The EU and Turkey stated their determination to revive Turkey's accession process in line with the conclusions of the EU Summit dated 15 October, to combat current risks and threats in a coherent and result-oriented manner, to show solidarity, and to advance their existing ties.

- The parties also reaffirmed that combating terrorism remains a priority, referring to the joint declaration of the G-20 Summit held in Antalya and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2249.

- The EU and Turkey welcomed the announcement to hold the Intergovernmental Conference on 14 December 2015 to open Chapter 17 (Economic and Monetary Policy).

- They also took note of the Commission's commitment to complete the necessary preparations for opening other negotiation chapters in the first quarter of 2016.
