The relations between Turkey and Albania continue with common history, similar lifestyles, and kinship ties. This stable country in the Balkans awaits Turkish entrepreneurs to engage in joint business fields. The Turkish and Albanian nations have an honorable past reaching deep into history and possess a rich experience base.

We believe that the exemplary relations between Turkey and Albania will also apply to the entire Balkans in the future. As the Marmara Group Foundation, with our civil society identity, we have been diligently and carefully striving for years to advance the relations between Turkey and Albania in every field.

When sending the first Turkish Ambassador to Albania, the Great Atatürk gave this advice: "We love the Albanian people. We consider them brothers. We seriously and decisively want their strengthening and progress as a state and nation. We desire that they gain the position they deserve in the Balkans independently and firmly. This issue is the foundation of the political relations between Turkey and Albania."

These words are a living testament for the Turkish State and the Turkish nation.

It should never be considered excessive to reiterate that the roots of our ties lie deep in history and, above all, that they are nourished by the will to develop the shared values of the two peoples.

Our countries and peoples have been open spaces for helping each other, defending one another, and sharing each other's troubles as true friends do.

Over the centuries, the Great Poet Mehmet Akif, who penned our National Anthem, was an intellectual of Albanian origin from our country. Şemsettin Sami Frasheri, who wrote our country's first great dictionary, was also a thinker of Albanian origin. Ali Sami Yen, who founded one of our important sports clubs, Galatasaray, was likewise a sportsman of Albanian origin. No one can know or estimate the number of Albanian citizens involved in our state, politics, bureaucracy, academia, and working life because they are essential elements of the Turkish nation.

In short, Turkey and Albania have always been expressions of a continuous and very beneficial friendship.

As the Marmara Group Foundation, we owe great gratitude to the Albanian nation. The late former President Bujar Nishani honored Dr. Akkan Suver with the Special Merit Medal on June 9, 2017. We consider this honor, as the Marmara Group Foundation, a value given to the great Turkish Nation through Dr. Akkan Suver. The Albanian State has always been represented at a high level at the Eurasia Economic Summits we organize annually. At the 25th Eurasia Economic Summit, the late President Bujar Nishani was commemorated. Also, Albanian Parliament Speaker Lindita Nikolla, as the chairperson of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization in 2024, presented Dr. Akkan Suver with an Honor Medal.

We Lost Bujar Nishani

We lost Bujar Nishani (2012-2017), one of the Presidents of the Albanian State.

Bujar Nishani was a distinguished figure who made exceptional contributions to Turkey-Albania relations during his presidency. Known for his great respect for democracy and human rights, Bujar Nishani participated in the Marmara Group Foundation and Eurasia Economic Summit activities.

Before his passing, Bujar Nishani wrote a letter to Dr. Akkan Suver, sharing his thoughts on the topics of the 25th Eurasia Economic Summit. In 2017, he awarded Dr. Akkan Suver the Albanian State High Merit Medal.

The Marmara Group Foundation will never forget Bujar Nishani. We bow respectfully before his cherished memory.
