MASSACRE OF KHOJALY COMMEMORATED AT ITS 24TH ANNIVERSARY IN ISTANBUL

The Khojaly Massacre, which was committed by the armed Armenian bands against Azerbaijanis 24 years ago, was commemorated with a ceremony at ASAM. At the meeting, Hon. Esmira Hüseynova, the Istanbul Consul of Azerbaijan and Dr. Sabir Şahtahtlı, the representative of AZERTAC New Agency and Dr. Akkan Suver made presentations related to the inhumane drama taking place 24 years ago. A documentary film of Khojaly Massacre produced by the Haydar Aliyev Foundation was showed during the meeting. Dr. Sabir Şahtahtlı and Hon. Esmira Hüseynova took part in the questions and answers part as well. Following the meeting, Dr. Suver made remarks on the chronological order of the events.

Engin Köklüçınar authors the last eighteen years of Dr. Akkan Suver

Engin Köklüçınar, the vice-president of the Marmara Group Foundation, wrote a book evaluating the past eighteen years of the Marmara Group Foundation under the presidency of Dr. Akkan Suver. Mr Köklüçınar narrated his book categorising each year with a related interview, article, news and important photos from 1998 to 2015. Köklüçınar, in his book The Ages dedicated to the Civil Society, compiled the viewpoints Dr. Suver manifested during his abroad visits and promoted the establishment philosophy of the Eurasian Economic Summits which have been acknowledged as today’s union of prestige and reflection. In the meantime, Köklüçınar submitted in person the book, also editorialised by himself, The Ages dedicated to the Civil Society AKKAN SUVER, which scrutinises the last eighteen years of the Marmara Group Foundation, to H.E. Mr Gül, the 11th President. By referring to the book presented, the President Gül states ‘I am following the workings of the Marmara Group. In particular, Eurasian Summits and the activities related to the European Union promote the enlightened face of Turkey; this makes us feel proud’. Dr. Akkan Suver moderates the Olive Liberation Fest

Dr. Akkan Suver moderated the panel of ‘Olive under Threat’ having been held within the framework of the 6th Olive Festivities at Küçükkuyu, the small town which is considered to be the starting point of the Aegean Sea. The then-traditionalised panel of Olive Festivities, which has been organized for six years respectively under the administration of Mr. Cengiz Balkan, the Mayor of Küçükkuyu, was followed by a huge crowd. The panel inauguration was initialised with the address of Mr Balkan emphasizing the importance bestowed on the olive raising through the small town. At the panel joined by Dr. Handan Torak Benli –the Mayor of Avcılar, Süheyla Doğan – the representative from an environment organisation and the women farmers from the Yırcalı Village, the circumstances of the Turkish Olive Production was laid on the table. In accordance, Dr. Suver made remarks on the economic and industrial value of olive. In conclusion, the panellists brought on the agenda the difficult circumstances the olive sector getting through nowadays.

VALEDICTION DINNER TO THE CONSUL GENERAL OF UZBEKISTAN

The Marmara Group Foundation held a valediction dinner in honour of Mr Abror Gulyamov, the Istanbul Consul General of Uzbekistan on occasion of his end of tenure in Istanbul. At the dinner, Hon. Consul General was joined by Dr. Akkan Suver – the President, H.E. General Necdet Timur (ret.), H.E. Hüseyin Avni Mutlu – the Former Governor of Istanbul, Dr. Fatih Saraçoğlu, Engin Köklüçınar, Yüksel Çengel, Cafer Okray, Cengiz Güldamlası, Mete Güldamlası, Nuri Artok and Turan Sürücü. During the dinner, it was made mention of the remarkable services Mr. Abrov launched for the bilateral relations of Uzbekistan and Turkey during his tenure in Istanbul.

Within the framework of the 19th Eurasian Economic Summit of 2016, Dr. Akkan Suver, Mr. Şamil Ayrım and Mr. Cengiz Güldamlası paid a two-day working visit to Baku and joined the morning program of Yenigün live-broadcast on the İçtimai TV of Azerbaijan to tell of the upcoming Summit in Istanbul. During the live-broadcast Dr. Suver and Mr. Ayrım expressed their gratitude thanks to the high considerations given so far by Azerbaijan for the Eurasian Economic Summits and made mention of the subjects of Economy, Energy, Terrorism and Forced Migration to be touched upon at this year’s Summit.

The Extraordinary General Assembly of the Marmara Group Foundation was held at the Malta Kiosk (Malta Köşkü), the historic residence located within the garden of the Yıldız Palace. At the General Assembly presided by H.E. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Samsunlu, the Former Minister –under the chairmanship council, Dr. Akkan Suver was re-elected as the President of the Foundation.
