“Let’s praise, Turkey is our homeland”
Derviş Eroğlu - The Prime Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was hosted by The Marmara Group Foundation in İstanbul.
Derviş Eroğlu - The Prime Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus(KKTC) made a statement due to Turkey, European Union and Cyprus problematic issue during a dinner party that was organized to his honour.
Dervis Eroğlu – The Prime Minister of KKTC participated a monthly organizing dinner party at Dahil İstanbul Facilities in Yıldız Park as a guest of Marmara Group Foundation.
Derviş Eroğlu made a speech regarding Turkey, European Union and Cyprus problem. Hilmi Güler – Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Başaran Ulusoy – President of TÜRSAB, Dr. Akkan Suver – President of the Marmara Group Foundation and businessmen attended.
Cyprus issue
Eroğlu says: “My biggest happiness is that Turkey is our homeland. Sometimes I’ m calling our youths and saying: Let’ s praise, we have a homeland. We would have resembled to Palestine, If we didn’ t have a homeland. Look at Palestine, they have no homeland and what are happening there? Consequently, we are trying to bring up our children as patriotic persons”.
“Greek State is used as a pawn”
Eroğlu claimed that Greek State is used as a pawn especially by Germany and France who are opposite to Turkey’s full membership to EU.
Eroğlu says: “In order to put a barrier on Turkey’ s membership path, Germany and France disallow Turkey’ s EU membership and they prefer Greek State with 800.000 population to Turkey. They threat Turkey by saying “Greek State has a right of veto power”. In fact, Greek State is used as a spokesman by some members of EU to transfer some individual opinions of EU to Turkey”. Eroğlu emphasized that Turkey must to take place in EU.
Eroğlu shared the result of a questionnaire that inquires how KKTC people react to a similar project as “Annan Plan”. Eroğlu explained the result rising from the questionnaire as 70 % “NO”.
Eroğlu states that they were opposite to Annan Plan from the begining and continues his speech: “Me and my party refused Annan Plan and we announced it everywhere and I didn’t regret from my decision. It’ s a play against us, EU said “you have already accepted Annan Plan and so.. They expect a concession from us”.
“Can Derviş Eroğlu and Mehmet Ali Talat agree each other?” Eroğlu reminded this comments on current newspaper pages and said “Mr. Talat is in search of an aggreement with Dimitris Hristofyas, normally we can agree each other. Yes, agreement is desired. They want a federal solution with two seperate communities in two seperate territories and I’m asking. What is the real purpose under their ambition of federal solution? There were many promises haven’ t been kept before the Annan Plan. We have been working on these problems since 1960 and now “this is the last chance” sentence is announced everywhere. If negotiations complete without an agreement, we have to know how we will leave the table. If we are invited the table once again after we are leaving the table, next generations will have to be clear in mind in order not to suffer from the same problems”.
At the conversation session of the meeting a journalist asked Eroğlu that “A ship that belongs to American-English joint venture will visit the harbours of the KKTC in September, 2009 and embergo will be evaporated. What is your comment on this issue?” and Eroğlu answered “I can say I hope. I think USA has been getting bored from the irreconcilable manner of Greek side. I hope it happens and embargo ends”.
