It has been 101 years since the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The opening day of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, 23 April 1920, has been admitted to children of the world by the founder and the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

This holiday was created as a combination of 23 April National Day and 23 April Children Day organized under the auspices of Atatürk. In the period of September 12, 1980, the National Security Council officially named this holiday "April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day".
