Dr. Edward de Bono celebrates his 85th anniversary

Famous philosopher and thinker Edward de Bono's 85th birthday ceremony took place in Malta under the patronage of Maltese President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. On behalf of the Marmara Group Foundation, Mrs. Müjgan Suver and Dr. Akkan Suver as well as Dr. de Bono's students from all over the world participated in the event.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro, who held the opening speech of Dr. de Bono's "New Forms of Governance" event, said that he created an opportunity for Malta.

As honorary speaker of the event, Dr. Akkan Suver, presented a paper entitled "Good servant, bad mentor". The speech was followed by Maltese businessman Angelo Xuereb's horizon tour on Dr. de Bono's thoughts. In the ceremonies held at the Historical Verdala Palace, Dr. Suver also talked about the suffering of war in terms of immigration in our region. During the two-day events, the importance of establishing the Ministry of Thought was emphasized.

You will find the text of the speech Dr. Akkan Suver made below.

"A good servant, but a bad mentor"

First of all, allow me to offer my sincere thanks on behalf of my spouse and myself to my esteemed friend, Dr. Edward de Bono, who brought us together today with the kindness of inviting us.

And I wish Dr. de Bono a lifetime full of healthy days.

I want you to know that I am honored to be a friend of this important philosopher and thinker of our time, who is full of life and energy.

How happy we are here, to be the friends of Dr. Edward de Bono.

The thoughts of this great thinker and philosopher, whose friendship I keep with a great respect, have been inspiring millions of people today.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I was asked to say a few words about "new forms of governance". However, on such a beautiful day, I do not want to bore you with a long speech.

But first of all I would like to point out that today's world will not exist tomorrow. Just like yesterday's world does not exist today...

When it comes to the form of governance, the developing human intelligence will lead us into new forms of government.

As you know, we are in a global level in the field of governance.

We have experienced two periods of global leveling. We are now in the third period. First, the cultural globalization took place.

This was followed by the globalization of knowledge and economy. Today we are experiencing political globalization.

Thus, we have reached the most difficult period in terms of governance. For there is a big handicap in front of the globalization of governance. A majority of nation states have hesitations in this regard. They are still undecided about the rights of sovereignty. However with the globalization of governance, transparency and accountability have been opened up. And again, discrimination based on language, race, color, sex, political thought, philosophical belief, religion, sect and so on. Maybe this will open the gate of global peace.

On the other hand, if we take into consideration the dimensions of communication and supervision, we will see that the artificial intelligence arising in the future will probably lead us to governances that are led by machines.

In the future, state and society, public and private sector relations will not be governed by traditional bureaucratic rules but by machines based on numeral and econometric skills. Now, the form of governance is oriented towards bringing a perspective to cultural and psychological dimensions.

With this application, which will probably be provided by the facilities acquired through information networks, the minds of individuals will focus on specific spots.

As everything will change, there will also be changes in understandings, such as of the understanding of the right to vote and to be elected.

Because today's voting and election logic such as voting for values but playing with beliefs will leave its place to a transparent democracy.

In this transparent democratic structure, artificial intelligence will be able to replace state representatives. They will learn about our preferences and priorities and they will be able to vote on your place accordingly.
Therefore, oppression, bribery and other tricks will not approach the ballot boxes.

If artificial intelligence is sufficiently sophisticated and powerful, it can take the place of the traditional bureaucracy in administration and declare itself the sole ruler. It can therefore create a new world order as just one, the only, decision making body.

Let us not forget that artificial intelligence is a good servant but a bad mentor.

Yes, our tomorrows will not be different from today, they will be very different indeed.

Humanity is on the eve of a new era. This era is the one in which technology takes over the place of politics.

I would like to congratulate my precious friend Dr. Edward de Bono once more on his 85th birthday on behalf of my spouse and myself and once again I offer my respects to your supreme delegation.

Thank you very much.
